Our one day, Jumpstart Series, are open to all levels, beginner to advanced.

In this one day workshop we will dive head first into making and printing copper plates utilizing traditional hard ground etching. This workshop is a great way to be introduced to the possibilities of traditional etching.
After an introduction to the technique and process, students will receive a prepared copper plate coated with hard ground. I will demonstrate the basics of mark making using different tools and materials. After drawing through the ground students will etch their plate in ferric chloride. (I’ll be with you throughout the etching process!) We will then print our plates on a traditional etching press. I will discuss ways to incorporate drypoint, post etching, as well.
I will also spend adequate time covering proper inking and printing methods and discussing how an etching press works. Students will walk away with a small set of printed works.
Materials supplied include:
-one prepared copper plate, approximately 4in x 6in
-one sheet of Hahnemuhle Copperplate paper
-all needed printing supplies (ink, tarlatan, etc.)
-additional plates and paper may be purchased
Students can either bring a sketch to transfer and work from, select an image on hand, or work directly on the plate. Copper plate size is approximately 4in x 6in.

Woodcut is the oldest of the relief printing methods and produces a unique grain when printed. In this class, you'll design an image, transfer it to a 6 × 8 inch shina plywood block, and carve it with gouges, learning to read the grain and letting it shape your marks. We'll cover tool handling, registration, and printing with a press. You’ll leave with a small edition. Expect texture, surprise, and a few happy accidents. All materials included.
Materials supplied include:
one 6 × 8 inch block of shina plywood
one sheet of Rives BFK Lightweight 19 × 26 inches
all needed printing supplies (ink, brayers, gouges)
*additional wood plates may be purchased at the studio
Students can either bring a sketch to work from, work abstractly or use an image we have on hand to explore the medium.

Sunday, January 24th, 2027 / 11am-5pm
In this one day workshop we will utilize the packaging material Tetra Pak to make unique shaped prints. Often used to package soups, stocks and other shelf stable liquids, Tetra Pak also makes an eco and budget friendly printing plate. After an introduction to the technique with printed samples and demo plates, students will receive material and create their own plates. We’ll use the second part of the day to explore inking and printing these plates on a traditional etching press. If time permits we will discuss options for adding monotype additions. Open to artists of all levels!
No experience necessary. All materials included:
Tetrapak plate making material.
One sheet of 22inx30in Hahnemuhle Copperplate paper

Studio LOcation & Cancellation Policy
Location:
Triangle Printmakers Collective is just north of downtown in the East Mordecai neighborhood of Raleigh, NC. Our studio is located inside the belt line near the corner of Glascock Street and Wake Forest Road. Parking, contact info and other directional notes will be provided in an email a few days preceeding the workshop. Please drop us a line if you have any questions or concerns ahead of time. If you require extra assistance the day of please also let us know, we will do our best to accommodate.
Cancellation Policy:
We understand plans sometimes change. If you can’t make a workshop you have registered for we will provide a full refund if provided a 14-day emailed notice (this allows us a chance to fill the slot.) We will issue a refund in class credit if we receive at least a 7-day emailed notice from you. Any cancellation with less than a 7-day notice will be handled on a case by case basis, with us reserving the right to not issue a refund.
We reserve the right to cancel a workshop a week in advance if we don’t have enough registrants. In that case a full refund will be issued in the format it was paid.
